A Pop Princess
If you write yourself into the pantheon of pop royalty, you’ll attract a lot of suitors. Not everyone who has a crush on you, however, will be true royalty! Prince William of England had a thing for pop princesses in the late 1990s. He was first accused of having a crush on Emma Bunton, better known as Baby Spice, and then of attempting to meet up with Britney Spears. In an interview, the 20-year-old admitted that she and William, the second in line to the English throne, had exchanged amorous emails. A generation can make such a difference! When Britney was touring the UK in 2000, the two were supposed to have dinner together, but he allegedly stood her up, as she later claimed. Burn!

While on tour, she was inspired by hip-hop artists such as Jay-Z and The Neptunes and wanted to make a record with a funkier vibe. After striking a $7–8 million promotional deal with Pepsi, Britney released her self-titled third studio album, Britney, in November 2001. “I’m a Slave 4 U,” the album’s first single, was an international top ten hit. She had no idea that “I’m a Slave 4 U” would become the soundtrack to her life. A caged tiger and a 7-foot-long albino Burmese python named Banana draped over Britney’s shoulders during her visually stunning performance of the single at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards, no doubt inspired by Salma Hayek’s renowned seductive dance in From Dusk til Dawn. What can a girl possibly do to outdo that? We’d tell you right away!
