Oops!… I Did It Again
With the release of her second studio album in May 2000, Britney definitely did it again. In the United States, Oops!… I Did It Again debuted at number one, selling 1.3 million copies in its first week, breaking the record for the biggest debut sales by a solo artist. To date, the album has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. She also went on the $40.5 million-grossing Oops!… I Did It Again Tour and released her first book, Britney Spears’ Heart to Heart, which she co-wrote with her mother. In September 2000, she performed at the MTV Video Music Awards. She removed her black suit halfway through the show to reveal a sequined flesh-colored bodysuit, which was followed by a far more provocative dancing routine.

A Power Couple
After much speculation in the media, Britney Spears confirmed her relationship with *NSYNC member Justin Timberlake. Britney Spears had a fairy tale romance as a solo artist and JT as a member of *NSYNC. Until you scratched the surface of their relationship, it appeared to be going swimmingly for such a well-known celebrity couple. At the 2001 American Music Awards, the couple wore matching tattered denim outfits. But hold on! There’s more! To a charity basketball game, they wore matching jerseys with the nicknames they’d given each other: “Pinky” for her and “Stinky” for him. Cringe! Spears and Timberlake were a cute power couple, so when it was announced in 2002 that they had broken up, fans all over the world were shocked. Soon after, rumors about what had caused the breakup began to circulate… JT then revealed the truth in one of his early solo songs.
