Whatever happened behind closed doors, the judge saw enough flaws in the situation to order an investigation, stating that anyone in charge of Spears (i.e. her father) would be under strict supervision. Jamie Spears filed papers in Los Angeles on September 5th, requesting that the court temporarily remove him from the position due to “personal health issues.” After a judge granted the motion, Britney’s caregiver, Jodi Montgomery, was appointed as his substitute. Spears’ conservatorship was extended in early 2020, despite her father’s problems, until at least April 30th, 2020. Britney requested that her father be removed as conservator in court documents filed in August 2020. Britney wants her interim guardian, Jodi Montgomery, to be in charge of her finances permanently. In February 2021, Britney’s finances were transferred to a third party, Bessemer Trust. Because of the court’s decision in Britney’s favor, Bessemer Trust is now also a conservator, and Jamie’s power has been limited. “The Probate Court’s rulings today show the court’s confidence in our client Jamie Spears and Bessemer Trust to manage the conservatorship of Ms. Spears’ estate together,” Jamie’s team said in a statement. Britney’s assets are said to be worth more than $60 million under Jamie’s control.
