Over the next few years, Britney made the comeback that her fans had been waiting for. She had a four-year residency in Las Vegas and released a number of successful albums, including Femme Fatale (2011), Britney Jean (2013), and Glory (2016). She even won the MTV Video Music Awards in 2016, nearly a decade after her last dreadful performance, performing “Make Me”… Problems, on the other hand, circled her like sharks smelling perfume.

Manager Sam Lufti sued Britney and her parents for defamation, breach of contract, and libel after claiming in her mother’s 2008 book Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World that he drugged and manipulated the singer and her family. He also charged Spears’ father with domestic violence. After a seven-year legal battle, a judge dismissed his complaint in 2012, but Lutfi appealed, and the two parties agreed on a settlement price in the “low six digits” in 2016. Britney’s former manager was served with a new five-year restraining order in 2019.
