In 2003, Madonna, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera were scheduled to perform at the VMAs, and it was one of the most anticipated shows. This would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Britney had to devise a plan to top her infamous, slithering MTV performance from 2001. As a result, she found herself in a titillating triangle tryst on stage in front of an international audience. In the middle of her hit Like A Virgin, Madonna kissed both of her co-stars on the lips, but it was much more than a simple kiss. That kiss came after Britney’s breakup with JT. The vision mixer had already cut to Timberlake’s face for a reaction shot when Madonna kissed Britney first, then Christina. To say the least, he didn’t appear to be a happy bunny.

Over the years, Britney has dated a number of men, including Colin Farrell, Jared Leto, and Fred Durst, the latter of whom has sparked some controversy… In 2003, at the height of both of their careers, Limp Bizkit vocalist and all-around genius Fred Durst was approached to work on a song with Spears, and the two began “rollin’, rollin’ rolling” together and embarked on a personal relationship. They did, at least in Fred’s mind. Britney, for one, scoffed at Durst’s assertions. “I just guess at the time it was taboo for a guy like me to be associated with a gal like her,” Fred revealed in a 2009 interview.
