You haven’t lost your mind. You’re not understanding English. It’s known as Singlish. If you overhear a discussion and wonder why it sounds like English at first and then doesn’t, it’s probably because it isn’t. Singlish has become the most extensively used street language in the Singaporean nation, which is made up of diverse cultures. It’s a cross between English and Chinese, Malay, and other Eastern languages. If you pay attention, you might catch a few words, but they will be as meaningless to you as gibberish.
