On the internet, there’s a phrase that goes, “If Britney Spears survived 2007, you can survive this.” But why did she do it to begin with? She was a lady with it all: a fortune in the millions, a legion of adoring fans, and her own children, Jayden and Sean, whom she now shared with her estranged husband, Kevin Federline. It had been a long time coming for her to have a nervous breakdown. For months, her public behavior had been inconsistent. On the other hand, her musical performances were panned for being awkward, robotic, and disjointed. She claimed she had been prescribed Prozac since she was 18 years old because she had stopped sleeping well. The true cause, however, appears to be a methamphetamine addiction. The singer allegedly shaved her head to avoid a drug test because she was afraid that traces of drugs, such as crystal meth, would be found in her hair.

In the weeks following the head-shaving incident, Britney was in and out of treatment, having hit rock bottom. She checked herself into LA facilities voluntarily in the hopes of improving her situation, but to no avail. Later that year, the singer met manager Sam Lufti in a club and quickly decided to give up complete control of her life in exchange for 15% of her earnings. Sam stated that if she agreed to stop using narcotics, he would accept the position of her manager. As her marriage and relationship with her sons deteriorated, he claimed she developed an addiction to amphetamines. Lufti was Spears’ manager for the next eight years…
