John’s unusual admission
Even John, always so practical, ended up admitting: “Okay, but I have to admit that Max has been acting strange,” which surprised us all. Normally firm in his convictions, even he seemed puzzled by the dog’s behavior. It was clear that we needed answers, and Max, sitting by the door with his gaze fixed on the courtyard, seemed to share this certainty. Whatever was out there, he was determined to find out.

Proposing an adventure
“Maybe we should turn this into an adventure,” I suggested, looking at John and the kids. Jake’s eyes sparkled with enthusiasm: “Like a real mystery?” he asked, and I nodded with a smile. “Yes, a mystery in our backyard!” Lily clapped her hands, excited, and even John couldn’t resist the idea. “All right, let’s get on with it,” he said, as we all looked at Max, who was wagging his tail energetically. The adventure was about to begin, and Max seemed more than ready to lead the way.
